Chapter 11 Response

Although there are several traditional audio technologies that can be used in the classroom I think that I would use the audiocassettes the most. Audiocassettes can be used in the classroom in many different ways, especially in an early childhood classroom. I would use audiocassettes to help children learn vocabulary and read stories. Also, if something would happen where I got sick and a sub came in I could record the lesson plan on the audiocassette. This would be a quicker and more detailed way to leave the lesson plan for the sub and the students. One emerging audio technology is the iPod. I would use the iPod in my classroom because I think it can be a great asset to the classroom. I would use the iPod to download general subject games, so the students could practice before tests. I would also use the iPod to play videos and songs that can be related to lessons.
There are also many traditional visual technologies that can be used in the classroom. One traditional visual technology that I would use is an overhead projector. I would use this to display problems to the entire class instead of passing out separate worksheets. I would also be able to solve one problem in front of the whole class rather than going from desk to desk trying to explain, which would save a lot of time. One emerging visual technology that I would love to use in the classroom is the e-book. I think that the e-book would save money and space that could be used for other things. The e-book can be used to download several books that are used in the classroom. Overall, I think that adding technology to the classroom is a great ideal and even though technology is growing, traditional and emerging technologies both can contribute to students learning knowledge in a fun way!

Chapter 6 Response

After reading chapter six I have decided that I would rather teach in a classroom that contains more digital technologies than one with less digital technologies. I think that by having access to several digital technologies a teacher can expand ways of creating creative, fun, and active lessons. By having digital technologies in the classroom a teacher can play a class game that can easily be read anywhere in the classroom, use microphones to playback vocabulary words and letters, and display pictures and videos. In chapter six it explains that "with almost any academic or administrative needs a software and or hardware that can get the job done." (145) I would love to use all the types of digital technologies, but I really believe that the e-book is something that I would pick first to use. I would pick the e-book to use first because I think it is a digital technology could save time, money, and space while keeping students interested. The e-book can save time because instead of having to wait weeks for ordered books to arrive a book can be downloaded. Also, the price of buying books online to download are usually a lot cheaper than buying hard back books. Space can also be saved because books will be on one device rather than three different class sets of books. Overall, I think that digital technologies can be a great asset to a classroom and the e-book is an example of how some digital technology can help students and teachers by giving great knowledge while saving time, space, and money.
